Community Law Manual 2016-17 http://www.adcoss.org.nz/community-law-manual-2016-17/ Fri, 05 Aug 2016 22:21:11 +0000 http://www.adcoss.org.nz/?p=1700 The Community Law Manual 2016-17 is a trail-blazing resource that helps Kiwis (and their advocates) help themselves.

The Manual contains over 800 pages of easy-to-read legal info, on just about every area of community and personal life. Re-released every year in July, the Manual provides comprehensive answers to common legal questions.

There have been huge changes to this year’s edition, especially in employment and health and safety law.

The usual price of the manual is $150 with a 33% discount to NGOs making the price only $100. Community Networks Aotearoa is happy to facilitate bulk buying for our members, and in turn their member organisations/networks, which will reduce the cost even further.

If we receive 10+ orders, the manuals will only cost $85 (plus $7.50 p&p) or even $75 (plus $7.50 p&p) if we receive 20+ so please let us know if you wish to order a copy by emailing Fionn on [email protected]  by 31 August. The more who order the cheaper it will become for all!

Be part of shaping key messages for the Equality Network’s next campaign http://www.adcoss.org.nz/be-part-of-shaping-key-messages-for-the-equality-networks-next-campaign/ Mon, 01 Aug 2016 21:55:36 +0000 http://www.adcoss.org.nz/?p=1691 The Equality Network are continuing to work on a set of key messages relating to inequality that will form the basis of their communication over the coming year. The messaging is about seeking to achieve social change through different levels of society – community, local body, organisational and national level. The messages are non-partisan and the aim is that all those involved in the political process will develop policies that reflect those messages. The messages will be useful for your organisation’s ongoing social media, media releases and general publicity as well feeding into the debate leading up to the 2017 election. To help us develop the messages we would like member organisations to suggest key areas of concern (e.g health, housing, education or labour policy) that relate to income inequality that could be worked into the key messages. Please contact Rae Julian with any suggestions.

Grant Thornton Not for Profit sector report http://www.adcoss.org.nz/grant-thornton-not-for-profit-sector-report/ Tue, 26 Jul 2016 21:47:44 +0000 http://www.adcoss.org.nz/?p=1648 In today’s ever evolving business environment, NFPs on both sides of the Tasman are intrinsically striving to develop and maintain professional standards in how they manage, operate and govern their enterprises.

Click here to download your copy.

Some of the key discoveries revealed in the report include:

  • Finding regular, new and innovative ways to generate funding and revenue is still a major challenge. New Zealand organisations in particular are struggling to find regular sources of funding when compared to their Australian counterparts, and organisations on both sides of the Tasman are finding it increasingly difficult to find new and innovative funding opportunities.
  • There is still a lot of room for improvement for NFPs to effectively address business risk to ensure the continuing viability of their organisations. Over a third of organisations surveyed don’t have a risk management plan in place.
  • With the rise of disruptive technologies affecting the way business is conducted, NFPs are embracing the move to technology in a number of key areas; a staggering 71% of organisations surveyed expect to invest in websites, social media and other digital platforms in the next two to three years.
  • The challenge of motivating and retaining good employees and volunteers remains prevalent in the sector. Career limits and work pressures are cited as the main reasons for losing both employees and volunteers across all organisations surveyed.

Many villages are in locations that are not well-connected to services like public transport and shopping centres, need upgrade work and are not meeting tenant satisfaction.

The council is proposing to partner with a third-party social housing provider to form a new Community Housing Provider (CHP).

For the consultation documents and forms go to http://shapeauckland.co.nz/consultations/housing-for-older-people/

Consultation runs from 9am Wednesday 1 June to 4pm Friday 1 July 2016 and feedback received will inform the council’s decision on whether to go ahead with this proposal.
